Wheel Modified Results: Tonight we were racing
the modified only and the team was ready. The car has been handling well
and the Vaseleniuck Engine continues to provide strong power. We went
out for the first and second practices on old tires. We still had great
times, in the heat of the day, posting four unofficial laps times well under
the track record of 13.99 for the modifieds. We made a minor adjustment
to the sway bar and track bar between practice sessions hoping to get even
better results and we weren't disappointed.
There were 22 cars and we were in the first heat of
11, starting at the end of the pack because we did not have a four week
average. In the eight lap sprint we finished 8th and came back to get
ready for the feature.
The feature was quite exciting. The track had
advertised a demolition derby for the evening's finale, but some of the
modifieds wanted to try their hand at demolitions in their race as well.
Of the 22 cars that started, only 15 were still on the track at the end.
There were wrecks, spins, sparks and tempers, but our team managed to get
through all relatively unscathed.
We had moved to 15th by the
first caution, 13th on the second, 11th by the fourth, 10th by the fifth and
7th by the time the sixth and final caution flag flew in the twenty lap
race. With a two lap shoot out remaining, we were hopeful of getting a
top ten finish and a great start to our next six weeks of racing.
Unfortunately, when the green
and white flags flew, we discovered we'd picked up some trash from the track
and had a flat right front tire. We finished 14th. In this case,
the finish doesn't do justice to the fun we were having on the track.
But with a new bumper and spindle we'll be ready for next weekend!!!
