Open
Wheel Modified Results:
Tonight's race was planned as a tune up for the 50 Lap Open Wheel
Modified Championship in late July. We wanted to see if we had the car
repaired to its best set up....and have a little fun along the way. Our
sponsor bought four new tires so we could test everything out under the same
conditions as we'll have for the Championship race. We broke a
distributor cap in the first practice. The track supplier didn't have
the parts we needed, but we made sufficient repairs prior to the heat race to
get through the evening.
We started in the back (four week average rule
again!) in both the heat race and the feature. There was a full field of
24 cars and we started 11th (the last row) in the second heat race. In
the short 8 lap sprint we climbed to a 7th place finish. Based on how we
ran in the heat, we were confident that the distributor repairs would get us
through the night so we put the new tires on and prepared for the feature.
The line up put us 23rd of 24. We began picking the
cars ahead of us off one by one. Surprisingly there weren't many
cautions, unlike previous modified crash fests! By the second lap
caution we were18th. In the 17th lap there was another caution and we
were in 12th place. By the time we reached the checkered flag, we had
made it to tenth.
We had a great time racing last night. Getting the
chance to pass 13 cars in 20 laps was a driving lesson you don't get by
starting out front. We used the inside and outside grooves
successfully. The car came home in one piece. We all enjoyed the evening
and despite an hour and a half rain delay we felt it was a successful
night.
We missed Elizabeth and Michael who had hoped to visit
Florida this weekend and watch their cousin race. It was a good show and
we think you would have enjoyed it. But there's always another
race!
