Tonight's race
was definitely exciting as a driver and the fans seemed to enjoy the
action as well. The evening started with rain washing out all but
one practice session. Not much time to make sure everything was
fine tuned. Our car has been great for the last three races and we were
confident it was going to work well.
We started the first heat race in 5th and
gradually picked off cars throughout the 8 lap sprint. We reached
2nd place by the time the checkered flag flew.
In the feature we started in 5th, inside third
row. The modifieds were pretty true to form. The first
caution came just after completing the first lap, but by then we had
moved into the 4th spot. After the restart, we patiently raced for
the next 22 laps. We finally set up the third place car and passed
cleanly in the turn, moving us to the 3rd spot.
We barely missed
the wreck in lap 23, when the first and second place cars tangled
Luckily, the car behind us didn't respond as quickly as we did and the
impact of their car on our rear bumper helped us make the right hand
turn to jump around the wreck. The car that hit us wasn't as lucky
and ended up being hauled off the track on a flatbed after plowing into
the wrecked cars.
The leader had to leave the track for repairs
and ended up in the back of the pack for the restart, so we moved into
second place. One the next lap there was another incident further
back in the field. Finally we had a one lap shoot out.
Taking the green flag, we were right on the leader's bumper but just
couldn't make the pass for the win.
We're happy with a second place finish that
allowed us to take home part of the Holeshot bonus. Holeshot
Engineering sponsored a bonus payout to the first and second place
finishers in each class tonight. In racing every little bit helps! |
