  This is simply the best Harley-Davidson performance book available. If you want explanations of the theory behind making horse power and how it applies to a H-D big twin engine, this is the book you need. The book assumes the reader is intelligent to make his/her own decision on what performance components to use.

  If you want to build your own engine from the ground up, here is your guide to blueprinting the Harley-Davidson engine. Easy to understand and clear illustrations take you through every aspect of modifying the Evolution engine for maximum performance.

• Harley-Davidson Sportster Performance Handbook
  by Buzz Buzzelli
  This book comes very close to doing for H-D Sportster's what Denish's book does for big twins. Not quite as much theory, a little more Harley history, but a lot of practical information on building a strong Sportster engine.
• A Twist of the Wrist: The Motorcycle Road Racers Handbook
  by Keith Code
  Don't let the title of this book fool you. If you ride on public streets, you need the information in this book. The explanations of how to handle your motorcycle under all types of circumstances is just as applicable to street riding as on the race track. No matter what you ride, Aprillia to Harley-Davidson to Yamaha race bike, there is something in this book for you to learn. Get the video if you can. The presentation of the video is a little hokey from time to time, but it does not distract from the presentation of techniques presented in Code's books.
• Twist of the Wrist; Vol. 2: The Basics of High Performance Motorcycle Riding
  by Keith Code
  An expansion of techniques developed in the first A Twist of the Wrist. The extra information is excellent.

• Harley-Davidson Model Specific Service Manuals
  by Harley-Davidson from your local Harley-Davidson Dealer
  The Harley-Davidson Shop manuals provide the best source for instructions to change parts, make repairs and maintain your bike. It's all in there. Do yourself a favor and buy the shop manual.
