autobahn Cruiser The 'Dragster' style of Harley is popular in Germany according to Markus Bittner, the owner of this fine looking bike. If they are all look as good as this Soft Tail, it is easy to see why the style is popular. Sitting low on its 6 degree racked triple tree with wide tires front and rear, the bike has the appearance of a pro-drag bike. |
How serious is Markus about his Harley? He risks the bike being confiscated by the German police because it is not 100% stock. And the penalty if Markus gets caught? How about loosing your bike for 6 months and forcing you to rebuild it to stock specifications. You don't even get the old parts back. ABATE and the AMA think we have problems in the U.S.A, over in Europe the problems for bikers are much more serious. We only worry about helmets, they worry about loosing a bike because the choose to customize it and then ride it. |
Markus noted that the German division of Harley-Davidson Motors supports the tough laws of the country. They have also stated that they won't accept customized bikes as Harley-Davidsons unless they are done with OEM aftermarket parts. | During Bike Week 1998, Markus spent some time in Daytona looking at the bikes, buying some parts, hanging around Daytona Harley and spent some time at the AMI Dyno Shootout. I hope in the future we continue to see more of these fine American V-Twin's proudly customized and ridden in Germany. |
