Spark Plug Wires
|
Performance
and Technical information on spark plug wires for Harley-Davidson motorcycles. The number of performance claims that exist around a simple spark plug wire
could lead you to believe that all your performance problems can be solved with the simple
purchase of a set of spark plug wires. The claims range from the mildly interesting to
completely absurd. When reviewing many of the advertisements for some of these products, a
small element of truth may exist in the claim. V-Twin Café believes that most of the claims are based upon before and after
testing comprised of aged components compared to the installation of new, high quality
components. This is the situation that most consumers will be in when they look for a set
of ignition wires.
Since you are reading this article, it must be assumed that you are
serious about engine performance and are looking for solid facts. In the July 1997
issue of Hot Rod Bikes (Peterson Publishing Company) pages 72 to 80, a series of dyno
runs were conducted on ignition wires from several manufacturers. The results of the test
provided V-Twin Café
with some interesting discussions with other people in the performance
industry. Despite some of the results of the dyno tests by HRB, V-Twin Café believes that
claims of increases in performance that seem to good to be true, probably are. With that
in mind, an excellent description of spark plug wires and their relationship to spark
plugs, the coil and the ignition module were created by Magnecor, a manufacturer of high
performance plug wires. V-Twin Café
presents this informative information by Magnecor to let you make up your
own mind. I can tell you that engines built by Bike Tech do not use any components making
claims of 'magic horse power'. While V-Twin Café can not substantiate the claims of increased horsepower by companies like Nology and Splitfire, we feel
that engine builders that are serious about increasing the performance of their equipment
will do the proper research to make a proper choice.
